No time to lose to enter mural contest

Posted
Drivers have to make a slight detour to see the new mural on the Giant Food Store back wall but it’s worth the very short trip.

Chris Chandor, developer of the Logan Square Shopping Center on Route 202, just south of New Hope has commissioned a mural that celebrates Bucks County citizens and landmarks. It’s a tribute to a region that has spawned an abundance of creativity – in art, architecture, literature, theater – and its history goes right to America’s roots.

For years, Chandor admired the painted walls in Philadelphia, the bright murals showing local heroes –you can see them from I-95 and streets all over the city. He happened to have a blank wall available, so he commissioned an artist to paint one he hopes will become a favorite local attraction.

And he’s staging a contest to get the word out about the mural. See if you can identify the 13 people and eight landmarks and sign up to enter. All it takes is a drive around Logan Square to the back of the Giant market.

There’s an entry form on page A5 of the Sept. 17 Bucks County Herald. Entries can be mailed to Logan Square Mural Contest, 6542A Lower York Road #182, New Hope, PA. 18938 or, using the guide on page A3, email answers to logansquaremuralcontest@gmail.com

The prizes are significant: $1,000 for the grand prize, two $500 second prizes and 30 $100 awards. The deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Beyond the contest, Chandor hopes that local schools can bring students to the mural to give them an outdoor history lesson.
