Newtown Twp. swears in new assistant fire chief

Posted

At a February meeting of the board, Newtown Township Supervisors were joined by District Judge Mick Petrucci for the swearing-in of new Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Services Nicholas Weaver.

The township’s newest hire was born and raised in Newtown. He graduated from Council Rock High School North in 2007 and Holy Family University with a bachelor’s degree in fire science and public safety in 2012.

In 2013, he completed his Master’s Degree at St. Joseph’s University in public safety administration. Weaver began his fire services career as a volunteer in Newtown and has been in fire service for the last 18 years.

He was previously employed by Whitemarsh Township in the position of fire marshal and emergency management coordinator in addition to being a certified fire suppression instructor at Bucks County Community College.

Newtown Fire Chief Glenn Forsyth had nothing but praise for the newest addition to the force. Many of Weaver’s new colleagues were also present for the ceremony as was his wife Erin who stood by his side, Bible in hand, as he took the oath of office.

Weaver’s journey has taken him from volunteer to lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, and now deputy fire chief. In his new role, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the fire department as Chief Forsyth will focus on administrative duties.

The position Weaver now fills was created precisely for the purpose of lightening the workload on the fire chief while at the same time bringing the Newtown Fire Department to the next generation of innovation and leadership.

The township hopes having a deputy fire chief to learn under Chief Forsyth will be beneficial for all parties. Board Chairman Dennis Fisher added, “I’d like to welcome our new deputy fire chief. Congratulations to Nick Weaver.”
