Newtown Quaker kids support food pantry in Trenton

Posted

On a recent weekend, 11 young people between the ages of 3 and 15 worked with three adults at the Newtown Quaker Meetinghouse to assemble 100 “Weekend Bags” of food to donate to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

The weekend bags include a complete meal for patrons of TASK to take home, especially children who might go hungry over the weekend when their school is closed. The members and attendees of the Newtown Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) donated all the food and supplies needed for the bags.

The bags included granola bars, individual serving cans of ravioli and spaghetti, individual fruit cups, water bottles and juice boxes.

The project coordinator, Grace Ciccimaro of Washington Crossing, said when thanking the young people, “I am impressed! You assembled 100 bags when we only thought we could do 50! Congratulations and thank you very much.”

Gene Ciccimaro delivered the bags to TASK in Trenton.

Nancy Martin of Newtown, chair of the Children’s Education program at Newtown Quaker Meeting, said, “This service project is the first in a planned series of projects the young people have selected to support their community this year. Future projects will include donations to the SPCA of Bucks County, the Bucks County Help Center (the United Way), and a book drive for children’s books.”
