Newtown Historic Association honors local veterans

Posted

The Newtown Historic Association will host a “Memorial Day Tribute to Honor Local Military Veterans” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, at the NHA Callahan Research Center, 100 Mercer St., Newtown.

See over 100 photos of local soldiers who fought in World War II. This collection was created by Mike Donovan, a past NHA member and history buff. On display will be letters written by the soldiers, with private moments shared through the exhibition, allowing visitors to experience moments both in private and in battle in the soldiers’ own words.

New to this tribute will be over 300 WWII military shoulder patches from the U.S. Army, Army Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard. Represented will be a variety of battles that made up those campaigns across Europe and Asia. A special focus will be provided through 12 Newtown natives and soldiers, not all of them coming home.
