New Hope Colony Foundation for the Arts slates fundraising tribute to Eleanor Miller

Posted

The New Hope Colony Foundation for the Arts is celebrating the birthday of its founder, Eleanor Miller, with a fundraising party from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Phillips’ Mill Community Association, 2619 River Road, New Hope.

The petite tour de force and local icon is approaching her 91st birthday, and everyone is invited to raise a toast at an elegant event in her honor that will include hors d’oeuvres, libations and a special presentation. Feel free to bring a song or share a story about Eleanor.

Miller is a remarkable individual who wears many hats – wife, mother, Broadway actress, Realtor, historian, and community supporter.

Her greatest passion is her participation in the nonprofit foundation she established to resurrect the sites and creative spirit of the former New Hope Art Colony at the Phillips’ Mill Historic District. That enchanting bend in the road (literally) known as the Gothic English Village has beguiled artists since the turn of the century, and was the birthplace of the Pennsylvania Impressionists.

“People come along River Road and suddenly they are in England. It’s such a magical spot,” Miller said.

Attendees at the tribute party will be helping to support the foundation’s efforts to create, once again, an active retreat where artists can create their best work in the same studios and landscapes that inspired one of the most unique artistic enclaves in the United States.
