Posted

As final entries to the Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s annual National Dog Show are calculated, Retrievers lead the way, with a total of 47 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and 44 Golden Retrievers entered to compete for Best of Breed at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21.
Ultimately, winners of Best of Breed will compete for Best in Group honors and one dog from each of those will take the center ring for the prestigious Best in Show title. In 2021, a Scottish Deerhound named Claire earned the honor.
The next highest entry is Siberian Huskies, with 36, and a total of 40 states are represented and handlers or the competing dogs are coming from as far as Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Canada, and Puerto Rico. As expected, Pennsylvania leads the way with 499 entries.

The popular show, one of the most prestigious in America, started in 1879 and has been staged continuously by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia (KCP) since 1933. Tickets are priced at $16 for vaccinated adults and can be purchased at nds.nationaldogshow.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The National Dog Show and the Kennel Club of Philadelphia will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination upon entry into the building. No one under 12 will be admitted.
This year’s National Dog Show marks the 20th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Day NBC broadcast airing immediately after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
