NAMI sponsors “March for the 22” in support of veterans

Posted

“March for the 22” is a community awareness event for veterans’ mental health and suicide prevention.
Because each day, 17 veterans die by suicide, NAMI Bucks County and its community partners walked in Doylestown Sept. 19.
At the time of the group’s inaugural march in 2017, data from the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs reported the loss of 22 veterans each day by suicide. Though the data has changed, the mission has not and the name, “March for the 22.”

“We will continue to honor the life of each veteran we’ve lost as we work toward a world without suicide,” the organization says.
Citizens were invited to line the walk route and cheer in support of the 22 men and women marching 22 kilometers with 22-pound backpacks along a route around Central Bucks County to the Bucks County Courthouse Memorial Courtyard.
Marchers began their journey from the cemetery in Washington Crossing at 7 a.m. and arrived at the courtyard in Doylestown around noon.
