Mt. Gretna Summer Concert Series returns to Newtown Theatre in January

Posted

A bit of summer has landed at the historic Newtown Theatre thanks to a partnership with the Mt. Gretna Summer Concert Series.

In October, the theater began presenting a different weekday matinee concert each month. All of the concerts previously played to standing-room-only crowds as part of the Mt. Gretna Summer Concert Series in Lebanon County, which was created in 2017 by Larry McKenna.

The first concert in Newtown in October, “The Greatest Hits of Broadway,” sold out in less than two weeks and the second, “The Music of Barbra Streisand,” also did well. After a break in December, the concerts will resume in January.

“These are high-quality concerts with professional musicians and singers. Our patrons have been loving them, and we hope to continue offering them for years to come,” said Andrew Smith, executive director of the Newtown Theatre.

Tickets for the following upcoming Mt. Gretna shows are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com/events:

• “The Crooners: From Nat King Cole to Michael Bublé” at 3 p.m. Jan. 10. This show will feature five professional singers and a six-piece band playing music from some of the greatest “crooners” of the past 50 years, including Bobby Darin, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Al Martino, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Robert Goulet, Perry Como, Sammy Davis, Engelbert Humperdink, Nat King Cole, Michael Bublé and more.

• “Party Anthems & Make-Out Songs of the 1960s” at 3 p.m. Feb. 7. This show will feature five high school buddies who started a band more than 50 years ago who return for “one final reunion.” Concertgoers will hear songs from The Beach Boys, The Lettermen, The Four Seasons, the Four Tops, The Temptations, Chicago, and many more.

• “Mick’s Company: An Afternoon of Irish Music & Humor” at 3 p.m. March 20. Founded more than two decades ago, Mick’s Company is Philadelphia’s “most fun” Irish band. Concertgoers can enjoy an afternoon of all their favorite Irish songs and humor.

• “The Top 20 Female Singers of All-Time” at 3 p.m. April 10. This concert will feature The Sassies (Kate Nice, Cait Dailey, and Peg Keller) singing classic hits from 20 of the greatest female singers of all time – from Etta James to Whitney Houston.
