Michener presents Immersive Street Art exhibition and program

Posted

The James A. Michener Art Museum presents dynamic spring programming in conjunction with its new exhibition, “Keith Haring: A Radiant Legacy.”
An immersive street art experience, “Kyle Confehr: Process is the Product,” will be on view in Michener’s Pfundt Gallery, April 9 to Oct. 9. A panel discussion focusing on Haring’s legacy will be held at 2 p.m. April 9 with Jane Golden, Kyle Confehr and Lenwood Sloan, moderated by Joshua Lessard.
Confehr is an artist and designer based in Philadelphia. His work blurs the lines between art and graffiti by weaving nostalgia, humor, and personal experience into ornate pieces. Using paint markers or aerosol spray paints, he creates large-scale murals full of symbols that are fluidly connected by line and color.

Influenced by a contemporary graffiti, music, and skateboarding culture, Confehr paints his murals in free hand, without a set plan or outcome, creating his work in the fastest and most direct way.
Much like the 1980s pop artist Keith Haring, Confehr has developed a lexicon of visual symbols that he draws from for his work. At the Michener, Confehr will create a fully immersive experience with custom murals and smaller canvases. These works will be activated by a layered augmented reality experience that visitors can access on their smartphones. Tickets are $20 ($5 for students) at michenerartmuseum.org.
