Mercer Museum to present a night of music and storytelling

Posted

The Mercer Museum hosts “Harmony and Tales: A Night of Celebrating Music and Storytelling with Mukamuri.”

The concert, at 6 p.m. Oct. 20, features a historical journey through song and storytelling with one of Doylestown’s favorite singer-songwriters, Mukamuri.

Guests can hear songs from a variety of musical styles and genres, featuring legendary artists Billie Holiday, Bob Marley and Woody Guthrie, as well as traditional African spirituals and original pieces written by Mukamuri himself.

Mukamuri is a soul artist originally from Zimbabwe and based in Doylestown for the past decade. He uses his music to entertain and educate audiences. He believes every story has a song, and he uses his music to bring joy and create moments of unity.

Concert attendees will have a special evening opportunity to spend time in the Mercer Museum’s “Everyday Rhythms: Music at the Mercer” exhibition with Mukamuri after the concert.

Open through Dec. 31, the exhibition explores some of the common uses of music and musical instruments – shared across many regions, people and cultures – that were once a part of the acoustic landscape. This soundscape of everyday life is universally found across the globe, and instruments help capture our similarities and differences.

“I am incredibly delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Mercer Museum on the Harmony and Tales concert. It fills me with great excitement to use music as a tool for education and starting conversations that challenge us to become better versions of ourselves,” said Mukamuri. “The Mercer Museum holds a special place in my heart, and I deeply value the relationship we have built. I am eagerly looking forward to this event and the chance to continue supporting the community.”

Admission is: $20/General Admission and $15/BCHS Members. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. concert. Exclusive exhibition access with Mukamuri is from: 7 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at mercermuseum.org/Mukamuri.
