Sherry Appleton, a dedicated instructor in the medical and health professions program at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT), has been named as one of the 12 finalists for the 2025 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award.

The annual recognition, announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), celebrates K-12 public education teachers who have made significant academic contributions to school-aged children across the state. The finalists, chosen from a pool of applicants, are recognized each fall in Harrisburg. The winner, who will be announced at a later state awards ceremony, will represent Pennsylvania at various national, regional, and local events, including the National Teacher of the Year ceremony at the White House.

Appleton, who transitioned from a successful career in health care to education eight years ago, expressed her gratitude and surprise at the nomination. “The journey of becoming a teacher has been transformative, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. It’s an honor to be considered among such distinguished educators,” she said.

Dr. Mark Covelle, administrative director at MBIT, praised Appleton’s innovative teaching methods and her commitment to student success.

“We are thrilled that Ms. Appleton is being recognized for her extraordinary efforts and contributions to the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology. She is an innovative health and medical professions teacher that is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. She is also well known in the career and technical community as a teacher leader and educational coach, presenting best practices at conferences across the commonwealth. Her innovation, passion, and skills make her a fantastic candidate for this recognition.” Covelle remarked.
