Lower Makefield residents to speak on Patterson Farm Monday

Posted

Lower Makefield will hold a forum Monday to get public input on development of a master plan for the 234-acre township-owned Patterson Farm on Mirror Lake Road near Interstate 295.

The forum is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the township Community Center, 1550 Oxford Valley Road. The township board of supervisors in early March awarded a $113,900 contract to Seiler + Drury Architecture to draft a master plan for the farm. That work will include, among other things, assessing the condition of the farm’s buildings, recommending compatible uses that keep with the preservation mission and creating financially sustainable enterprises to support the buildings’ maintenance.

Township officials want the public to play a role in the continued development of the master plan that is expected to be finished in September. Monday’s event will include an overview of the master plan and sharing of proposed concepts and strategies.

“We invite all interested members of the community to participate in this public forum,” stated a press release for the event. “We value your input and want to hear your ideas, concerns and aspirations for the future of the farm. This is your chance to engage in a meaningful dialogue with fellow community members, local officials and experts involved in the planning process. Your participation is essential in shaping the future direction of Patterson Farm.”

The nonprofit Artists of Yardley has been a tenant on the farm for several years. Township officials are also taking steps to remediate soils contaminated with lead or possible other elements on the farm. For more information, visit lmt.org.
