Local Greek opening location in Lambertville with ribbon-cutting, tasting

Posted

Local Greek hosts a ribbon cutting event at its second location, 2 Canal St., Lambertville, N.J., at noon Jan. 22.
Owner Anthony “Tony” Kanterakis will celebrate the new brick-and-mortar restaurant with this event. The Local Greek team invites any interested individuals to come out for the ceremonial ribbon cutting as well as a free tasting of a selection of menu items.
“The location is at the old Towpath restaurant. It’s right on the canal next to the Delaware River,” explained Kanterakis. “We had our eyes on it when we first opened in Princeton three or four years ago. And now we found out that they were selling the restaurant—it was great timing.
“It’ll be the same concept and same flavors from Executive Chef Stratos Karabasis.
Each location will have its own twist of character but the same cuisine. We want to bring our Princeton flavors to Lambertville and to Bucks County.”
Kanterakis described the emotions of opening a new restaurant taking on a “roller coaster feel.” Yet at the same time, he’s confident in the products he’ll be bringing to this new market.
Karabasis and Kanterakis revealed their favorite menu items like the homemade Pastitsio entree. They also gave a nod to desserts like baklava and loukoumades, which are all made in-house.

“We offer other dishes like classic breakfast and brunch. We’ll have the usual seafood and lamb dishes. But it’s about the overall experience. From the waiters to the staff, to the restaurant’s energy,” said Kanterakis.
“It’s modern Greek comfort food,” remarked Karabasis. “And we use great, local ingredients.”
After setting a tone in Princeton, the team at Local Greek believes they can successfully expand to Lambertville to offer a “necessary” addition to the town’s food scene. What’s more, the new Local Greek location will feature wines from a New Jersey vineyard called Old York Cellars.

Chef Stratos plans to bounce between the Princeton and Lambertville locations while the management staff will split between the two restaurants. The assistant chef, Elios Papa, will spend most of his time at the Lambertville location.
Owner Tony Kanterakis credits cousin Manny Kanterakis of NEA Construction with his help building out the newest location as well as the Princeton establishments—Local Greek and a spin-off cafe called Small Bites by Local Greek.
“It’s what the town needs – a different cuisine coming into the area,” said Kanterakis. “I think we brought something necessary to Princeton and I feel the same way about Lambertville.”
