Local Girl Scout receives short film recognition

Posted

Junior Girl Scout, Marea, co-wrote and illustrated “The Rainbow Prince,” a modern fairy tale with her mother that was shown at the County Theater in Doylestown last winter.

Girl Scouts gathered to watch the film, which centers around female empowerment and answers the question “Where are all the Brown Princesses?” In the film, Marea rewrote the expectations of gender roles, giving the Queen the most power in the kingdom and making sure the Princess is the one to save the Prince.

The film received numerous accolades, including Semi Finalist at the Paris International Short Festival, Semi Finalist at the San Francisco Indie Short Film Festival, Semi Finalist at the New York International Women Festival, and was chosen for official selection at the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival.
