The Doylestown Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Gina Lenox, is playing a free concert at 7:30 p.m. July 28 at Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church in New Britain.
Consisting of woodwind, brass and percussion players, the 15-year-old ensemble is a volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to offering performance and educational opportunities to student and adult musicians, high-quality concerts to the general public and the chance for musicians to perform together.
Highlights of the ensemble’s current season also include a performance at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Conference in April and the awarding of the Mark Hintenlang Memorial Scholarship in memory of a longtime ensemble member who died in 2022.
Receiving scholarships were Will Thompson (first place, $1,000) and Rena Xu (second place, $500).
