Posted

Linda “Jane” Caffrey Ball was born Nov. 17, 1941 in Doncaster, England. She passed peacefully the morning of Oct. 16, 2023 in the extraordinary care of Serenity RWJ Hospice. In 1963, she was one of few women to graduate from the London School of Economics. Jane immigrated from England to the United States in 1980.

Jane is predeceased by her beloved brother John Warren Caffrey and nephew Mark Warren Caffrey. She is survived by her children Nicholas Ball of Spruce Pine, N.C., daughter Christina Borden and son-in law Douglas Borden of Stockton, N.J. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jack Warren, Nicholas, Christopher and Tessa Borden and her great grandchildren, Pearl and Peter Koss. She is grieved by her nephew Timothy Warren, niece Kerry and her great-nieces Leah and Ashleigh Jane Caffrey. There will be a private service for family at St. George’s Church, Yorkshire, England.

Jane was well known in the contract bridge community. She taught bridge, ran several duplicate bridge clubs, and played competitively on both the national and the international level. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) in which she had attained a Life Master rank at a level reached by few players.

Jane brought many new players into the game of bridge, and she leaves behind a lengthy list of students, partners, and opponents whom she has touched through her dedication to the game she loved. The game is richer for her involvement and she will be missed.

Jane’s constant companion was Lulu, a rescue Shih Tzu from Animal Alliance. Donations for Animal Alliance gladly accepted in lieu of flowers can be sent to 1432 Rt. 179, Lambertville, NJ 08530
