Lenape Chamber Ensemble is opening its fall season with a colorful program of music in contrasting styles by three of the world’s most famous composers: Haydn, Prokofiev, and Dvorak.
Concerts are at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church in Upper Black Eddy, and 3 p.m. Sunday, October 22 at Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Auditorium in Doylestown.
Returning to the stage are the distinguished musicians familiar to Bucks County audiences: internationally known violinist Cyrus Beroukhim, concertmaster of the American Symphony and associate principal violist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra; Alberto Parrini, principal cellist with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and regular performer with the New York Philharmonic and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; and well-known pianist Marcantonio Barone, member of the Ensemble since 1987, who has performed with major orchestras on four continents as well as giving solo recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, Weill Recital Hall in New York, and the National Gallery in Washington.
Violist William Hakim comes to Lenape from the New York Symphonic Ensemble and performs with the Manhattan and Sonos Chamber Orchestras. He is also a noted jazz artist, performing at the Jazz Standard, Le Poisson Rouge and the Iridium. Also joining the Ensemble for this concert is Robert Zubrycki, concertmaster of the New York City Chamber Orchestra; member of the Stamford and American Symphony Orchestras, and a performer in numerous Broadway shows.
To start the program, Beroukhim, Zubryski, Hakim and Parrini will perform Haydn’s “String Quartet in B-flat Major Opus 1, no. 1,” nicknamed “La Chasse,” because of its jaunty “hunting call” flavor. Prokofiev’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano” will be performed by Parrini and Barone. The program’s final selection, Dvorak’s “Piano Quartet in D Major,” written in 1875, blends Barone’s piano with Beroukhim’s violin, Hakim’s viola, and Parrini’s cello.
At the concert receptions, members of the audience may enjoy refreshments and meet and chat with the musicians. Tickets at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students are available online, at the door or by calling 610-294-9361.
The Friday evening series is held at the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church off Route 32, one mile north of the Frenchtown Bridge in Upper Black Eddy. The Sunday afternoon concerts are at Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Auditorium at 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown.
