Lenape Chamber Ensemble opens 35th Summer Gala Concerts in Doylestown

Posted

Lenape Chamber Ensemble’s Summer Gala Concerts return to Doylestown Saturdays, July 9, 16, and 23.

As usual, the music will be enhanced by the excellent acoustics of Delaware Valley University’s Life Science Auditorium, 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown, where the Ensemble’s concerts are now traditionally held.

This three-week festival of chamber music programs, each starting at 8 p.m., will feature several musicians well-known to Bucks County audiences, along with some guest artists.

Returning to the stage July 9 are violinist Cyrus Beroukhim, concertmaster of the American Symphony and associate principal violist with the New York City Ballet; Alberto Parrini, principal cellist of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and regular performer with the New York Philharmonic and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Alan R Kay, clarinetist with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; and Marcantonio Barone, noted Steinway artist and performer with major orchestras on four continents.

They will be joined by some new faces, including Robert Zubrycki, violinist with the American Symphony Orchestra; and Caeli Smith, violist with the Orpheus and Verbier Chamber orchestras.

The July 9 concert begins with Haydn’s “String Quartet in D Major, Opus 76 No, 5,” written in 1797. A dramatically contrasting work, the “Cello Sonata No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 117” written by Gabriel Faure in 1921, follows. The program’s final selection, the “Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Op.115,” was written in 1891 by Johannes Brahms.

The July 16 concert will present the “String Quartet No. 7” by Franz Schubert, “Four Nocturnes for Violin and Piano” by George Crumb, and the “Piano Quartet in E-flat Major” by Robert Schumann.

On July 23, Mozart’s “oboe quartet in F Major” will feature the distinguished oboist Richard Woodhams, along with the “Fantasy for Piano Quartet” by Frank Bridge and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “String Sextet in A Major.”

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, at the door or at lenapechamberensemble.org. For information call (610) 294-9361.
