L. Charles Edwards Jr.

Posted

L. Charles Edwards Jr., of Langhorne, died Aug. 21, 2022. He was 78.

Charles is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; three children, Elizabeth Edwards (Bradley Cole), Jonathan Edwards (Frances) and Scott Edwards (Catherine); a grandchild, Wesley Edwards; and a brother, James Edwards.

Charles was born and raised in Langhorne Borough. He raised his own family four doors down from where he grew up. He was a former member of the Langhorne Borough Council.

After graduating from Neshaminy High School in 1961, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy, with which he served until 1965.

Upon graduating from Temple University, in Philadelphia, Charles embarked on a career in banking that would span a half-century, all of it spent in Greater Philadelphia. Ultimately, he retired from Firstrust Bank.

Proud as he was of his work, Charles was, foremost, a husband, father and grandfather. He dedicated himself completely to his family, which, for the last few years of his life, mostly entailed doting on his grandson.

Aside from family gatherings, he preferred to spend his retirement pedaling a cruiser bike either along the Delaware Canal towpath or across the boardwalk and avenues of Ocean City, N.J., where he and Linda have a vacation home.

Charles’s family plans to celebrate his life with a small, casual backyard barbecue, as he would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you consider donating in Charles’s memory to the Chandler Hall hospice, in Newtown, where he was well cared for in his final hours.
