Kids Castle closed for renovation

Posted

More improvements are in the works at Kids Castle in Doylestown Township, causing the popular, eight-story play structure to close for several months, volunteer organizers said.
Once more, Friends of Kids Castle volunteers and the township have raised funds to enhance the play area for children with all abilities, said Joe Salvati, chairman of the organization, in an online post.
While it’s hoped the playground will reopen by the end of the year, Salvati said, weather delays could extend the timeline for reopening.
Central Park, on Wells Road, where Kids Castle is located, will remain open during the renovation project, he said.
The “Build the Kingdom” project will expand the playground’s inclusive play areas that were first enlarged in 2019, when Kids Castle was closed for several months.
During this closure, more Poured-in-Place safety surfacing, which enhances the ground for maneuverability for all children, will be installed. There will also be underground improvements, said Salvati, which will require installation of subsurface drainage pipes, rough grading, concrete framework and retaining walls, among other improvements.

Once that work is complete, new play equipment will be installed to better serve all children, Salvati said. Volunteers have raised more than $193,000 to fund the latest improvements, he added.
Divided into “Kingdoms,” Kids Castle’s Kingdom 2 will reopen for children ages 2 to 5 and will have a one-way in and out entrance, as well as an interior fence to keep younger kids safe while older kids enjoy the playground, organizers said.
Kingdom 3 will feature a 7-foot tire swing and a 10-foot swing with four seats, including one designed for better accessibility, Salvati noted.
“During this temporary closure, new play structures will be installed that meet the needs of children with a variety of abilities at all ends of the spectrum to encourage and enable them to play with one another,” said Salvati in his announcement.
