Karin Ernest (formerly Bannak and Shumskas, née Mahler), devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 81. Karin is lovingly survived by her husband and best friend of 24 years, Richard Ernest, her children Heather Wessner (Michael), Joseph Bannak (Krista), and Anthony Shumskas (Pamela),stepdaughters: Carol Bruckler (Joe) and Pat Henzy (Jim), in addition to nine grandchildren; Alexander (Madeline), Katarina, Taylor, Paige, Kurt, Danielle, Caroline, Lily, and Noah, who knew her as ‘Oma.’

She also leaves to cherish her memory her three siblings, Sandra Stolle, Rolf Mahler (Heide), and Ortrud Harsh, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Karin was passionate about gardening and the outdoors and spent many happy hours tending to her gardens. She loved being on the water, watching the sunrise over Barnegat Bay. Karin was dedicated to her faith and her relationship with God. She loved going out to lunch with her friends, whom she referred to as the ‘Lunch Bunch.

Karin is predeceased by her parents, her late husband Anthony Shumskas, her brothers-in-law Herbert Stolle and Joseph Harsh, and her niece Laura Harsh.

Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 11:15 AM to 12:45PM at Addisville Reformed Church, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro. A service to celebrate her life will begin at 1:00PM. A private interment at Union Cemetery will take place at a future date.
