A 39-year-old man was convicted on Thursday, June 13, of repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting two girls over several years in Warminster Township.

Umair Mir, of Warminster, was found guilty by a Bucks County jury of rape of a child and two counts each of the following: involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16 years of age, statutory sexual assault of a child less than 16 years old by a person over 11 years older, aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 13 years old, aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 16 years old, endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old.

Both victims testified during the three-day jury trial before Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr and identified Mir as the person who repeatedly raped and sexually abused them for five years, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said. Corr deferred sentencing until Sept. 9 as Mir undergoes an evaluation by the Sex Offender Assessment Board. As a Tier III offender, Mir will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

“The strength and courage the victims displayed throughout the investigation and prosecution is nothing short of remarkable,” District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said. “Their brother should also be commended for speaking up and protecting his sisters. I am so proud of Deputy District Attorney Mary Kate Kohler and Det. Stephen Wojciechowski for fighting on their behalf to make sure that justice was served.”

Both victims and their brother gave powerful impact statements following the conviction.

“For too long, I have carried the weight of silence, but today, I reclaim my voice for an 11-year-old girl who did not get the chance to,” one of the girls, now 15, said. “I want to start rebuilding my life, reclaiming my sense of safety and trust, but with the right people this time.”

Her sister, now 17, said, “Being a survivor of sexual assault feels like carrying a backpack filled with bricks wherever I go. It’s like I’m constantly weighed down by the memories, the pain, and the fear. But despite it all, I refuse to let the darkness consume me. I’m fighting every day to reclaim my sense of self-worth and rebuild my shattered confidence.”

During closing arguments on Wednesday, Deputy District Attorney Mary Kate Kohler told the jury that Mir sexually assaulted the girls in nearly every room in the house, even when other people were in the home. Mir would use threats, ridicule and sometimes, physical abuse, to keep the girls from talking.

“They were the perfect prey for him,” Kohler said. “In a house controlled by him, a house controlled by fear.”

In late 2023, one of the victims opened up to her brother about the sexual torture she had endured over the past several years by Mir. A second sister also told him she was repeatedly victimized by Mir. The brother then told Mir’s wife and an investigation began in December 2023 when Mir’s wife reported the sexual assaults to the children’s high school. The school reported the crimes to the Warminster Township Police Department.

The investigation found that one of the girls was first sexually assaulted by Mir when she was 12 years old and the other when she was about 10 or 11. For about five years, the girls were raped and sexually abused by Mir about two to three times a week.

During the trial, others who lived in Mir’s home corroborated some of the details. Evidence that linked Mir to the sexual abuse was also presented during the trial. The brother of the two victims, who testified earlier in the trial, spoke before Corr after Mir’s conviction.

“Today, as I stand before you, I am not just a brother seeking justice,” he said. “I am the voice of two incredible souls who were robbed of their dignity, innocence, and peace by someone who was supposed to protect them. My sisters, whom I love beyond measure, have been subjected to a heinous crime that has shattered our family to its core.

“Rape is not just a violation of a body but an attack on the essence of a person’s soul. It leaves scars that may never fully heal and wounds that run deeper than any physical injury,” he said.
