John L. Allshouse, 89, of Ringoes, N.J., formerly of West Amwell, N.J., died on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home.

Born in Point Pleasant, Pa., Jack’s family came to Lambertville, N.J., when he was a teenager. He attended Lambertville High School where he met the love of his life, Bernice Sherman. Jack worked for Union Camp in New Hope for 40 years before his retirement. He also served in The National Guard.

Jack and Bernice were devoted to their family and were dedicated to both the older and younger generations. His grandchildren knew they could always count on “Popi Jack.” A man of many interests, Jack was an avid landscaper and an award-winning gardener. A talented artist, Jack worked in oils and gifted his paintings to family and friends on special birthdays and anniversaries. The subject matter was often tailored to the interests of the receiver. He was a skilled woodworker and created fine walking sticks and fanciful whirly-gigs. Jack had an eye for beauty and a dry sense of humor. He always cheered for the Philadelphia teams: Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. An avid reader, Jack read five or six books a week. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville. A favorite destination for Bernice and Jack was Cape May and always with a dinner at the Lobster House.

Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Bernice Sherman Allshouse; his parents Hugh and Agnes Dunn Allshouse; his sister and brother-in-law June and George Wilson and his brother Robert Allshouse. He is survived by his children and their spouses John N. and Liz Allshouse of Jamesburg, N.J.; JoAnn and Dan Serlenga of Ringoes and Jeffrey S. and Denise Allshouse of Lambertville; his grandchildren and their families Kara Jo Pachnieski and her husband Adam of Dublin, Pa., and their children Andrew and Ryan, Joshua Serlenga of Ringoes; and Samantha Williamson and her husband Bryan of Gainesville, Va., and their children Amelia and Leo; his sister-in-law Peggy Allshouse of Lambertville and an extended circle of family and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Toscanni Post 120 of the American Legion, 320 N. Union St., Lambertville, NJ 08530. There will be calling hours starting at 10 a.m. prior to the services.
