Bucks County councilman leaves Republicans to join Libertarian Party

Posted

Joe Adams, Penndel borough councilman, announced at the council’s meeting Dec. 12 that he would be leaving the Republican Party to join the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania.

“When I ran for office, it was under the premise to help the community of Penndel and reduce the government’s impact on our citizens’ daily lives,” Adams stated. “I believed the Republican Party was the best vehicle to do that. Upon serving in office, I quickly realized the two major parties are nearly identical and spend more time fighting over control than they do helping their constituents.”

Adams reached out to the Libertarian Party through Twitter one evening and was impressed with the response. “I was contacted by the party’s chair of elections and members of the Bucks County leadership team the next morning,” Adams explained. “They were welcoming and really convinced me I was making the right decision. It was a level of support I never saw as an elected Republican.”

Adams said that he has been leaning libertarian most of his adult life.
