Jim Rodgers shows Pennsylvania sojourns at Silverman Gallery

Posted

The Silverman Gallery of Bucks County Impressionist Art presents new work by Jim Rodgers, March 19 through April 16. The artist will be on hand to meet and greet visitors on two separate weekends, with opening receptions from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday March 19, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 27.
“I’ve chosen to live the last part of my life in Pennsylvania, and this collection celebrates the fact we live in such a beautiful area. It is not hard to find inspiration. This is the most thought-out show I’ve ever done,” Rodgers said.
Always having considered himself more of a Barbizon painter, Rodgers explains that he had in mind his favorite painter, Alfred Sisley and his magnificent use of color and tone. “While working on Meadowbrook Pond near the Brandywine River, I was thinking of ... dreaming of, Sisley. My recent brushwork is definitely more in an Impressionist style.”
Many paintings are set in beloved and familiar spots in Bucks County, as in “March Glow,” near Carversville, and “Solebury Orchard in June.” Dark Hollow Road, New Hope, Lake Nockamixon, Upper Black Eddy and Pipersville are other featured places.

Rodgers has also included several pieces from farther away, taken from sojourns around the Pennsylvania countryside and beyond. His “Sunset Stream” and “White Barn in Summer” are from hillsides and farms near Harrisburg. Also showing are landscapes from along the Susquehanna on the way to State College, or famous places on the map like Winterthur and Rittenhouse Square. “Fresh Brew,” “Cocktail Hour” and “Martinis, Dry” allude to those times when we need to take a break and relax.
With the Silverman Gallery since 2016, Rodgers’ paintings are collected throughout the region. The exhibition is available for viewing both online and in person. Make an appointment for a private viewing, call ahead for availability if you are in the area, or just stop by.
