“Jennifer Hansen Rolli: Bluish” opening at Silverman Gallery

Posted

Jennifer Hansen Rolli’s newest exhibit, “Bluish,” is rich with sky and water and bloom—images that evoke open space as well as serenity and calm.

Blue is a consistent color in Rolli’s work, ranging from the indigo of “Blue Hydrangeas in Creamer” to the moody blue of a snowy night in “Midnight Blue.” Rolli is quick to point out the distinction between bluish, and blue. There’s a sense of joy and freedom in her current work—a nod to the newest phase in her own life.

Opening Dec. 10 at the Silverman Gallery of Bucks County Impressionist Art in Buckingham Green, the exhibition will continue through Jan. 15. The gallery will host opening receptions for “Bluish” from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

With all three of her children now grown and living in different parts of the country, Rolli still feels a deep connection to them, but also sees it as a new start for herself. “I don’t just have to get in and out of paintings,” she explained. “The hands-on part (of parenting) is over. There isn’t that panic of having to get people to places on time.

“The absence of having kids running amok has given me a chance to run amok myself. It’s an incredible time to dig deeper into my work with no interruptions while I’m in that meditative state or on the verge of correcting my wrongs,” she said.

Rolli’s newest paintings, from the near silent moment of a winter’s night to the contemplative moment of a child discovering a note on a miniature piano to the still life images of flowers displayed in a creamer that belonged to her mother, are a symphony of bluish moods. “Bluish” works also include classic scenes of Rolli’s home, Bucks County.
