Janice M. Labs

Posted

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Janice M. Labs, of Plumsteadville, Pa., on Friday, March 24, 2023, at her home at the age of 92. She was one of the oldest residents born and raised in Plumsteadville and was affectionately known as “Guma.”

Born in Doylestown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Catharine (Kramer) Myers. Janice attended Plumsteadville’s one-room schoolhouse (now the Township Building) and graduated from Doylestown High School, Doylestown, Pa., in 1947, and the Lansdale School of Business, Lansdale.

Besides raising her family, Janice was employed as a secretary by the Myers Food Corp., Plumsteadville, for over 15 years until retiring in 1990. She also had worked at the Nyce’s Planing Mill and the Sommermaid Creamery, both in Doylestown, as well as the former Adams Construction Co., Perkasie, Pa., over the years.

Guma dedicated her life to her family. She had weekly Tuesday night dinners for her grandchildren as they grew (so they would all remain close, as they did) that was usually grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream and, sometimes, the best root beer floats.

She loved to travel, read and solve crossword puzzles daily. She also enjoyed movies and history, having much knowledge of local history that she especially liked to pass on to others.

She was the loving mother of Scott W. Labs and his wife Sandy, of Plumsteadville, the late Kevin Labs and his wife Sherry, of Plumsteadville, Brooke Labs and his wife Lisa, of Dublin, Pa., and Melissa K. Labs, of Sellersville, Pa. She was “Guma” to nine grandchildren, Amy (Steve), Matthew (Ashley), Shelby (Brandon), Allison (Jake), Meredith (Nick), Olivia, Brooke (John), Morgan and Vivian; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Harper, Raegan, Riley and Isla, as well as three more great-grandchildren that she was excited to meet. In addition to her son and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Gail Myers.

Her funeral services with interment in Mechanicsville Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Pa., will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Neighborhood Learning Center, c/o Christ Community Church, P.O. Box 386, Plumsteadville, PA 18949, where quite a few of her grandchildren attended.

Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, Pa.
