It’s a brand new year at Morven Museum and Garden

Posted

January features a number of programs at Morven Museum & Garden, 55 Stockton St., Princeton, N.J.

On Thursday, January 19 at 6:30 p.m., join local Historian Linda Barth for “The Garden State: Where Ideas Grow.” At this hybrid event, Barth will explore groundbreaking, useful, fun, and even silly inventions and their New Jersey roots, such as: Bubble Wrap, the boardwalk, the Band-Aid, and even professional baseball itself.

Included with in-person purchases, the museum will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. where guests may view Morven’s current exhibition “Ma Bell: The Mother of Invention in New Jersey.” A Zoom link will be shared with virtual ticket holders the day of the event, and a recording will be provided following the program.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, take a tour of “Ma Bell: The Mother of Invention in New Jersey” with one of the exhibition’s curators, Jesse Gordon Simons, who will offer behind-the-scenes insight on the stories and objects collected throughout. “Ma Bell” closes on Sunday, March 5.

Lastly, beat the winter doldrums and prepare for spring at the Winter Seedling Workshop at noon Wednesday, Jan. 25. Morven’s horticulturalists Louise Senior and Charlie Thomforde will walk participants through the science and practice behind growing seedlings indoors for spring planting. Everyone will have a chance to prepare and take home their own winter seedling kit, featuring a variety of seeds to choose from.

Morven Museum & Garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
