Hunterdon County sets Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony

Posted

Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred W. Brown will host the county’s annual Remembrance Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Historic Courthouse steps, on Main Street in Flemington, N.J.

The event will pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93, including close to 400 first responders and law enforcement officers.

Former High Bridge Mayor, Hunterdon County resident, and forensic biologist, Mark Desire, will speak at this year’s event. Desire will discuss his role as manager of the World Trade Center DNA Identification Team and how it has helped return loved ones who perished during the terrorist attack to their families.

The county’s theme this year, “We don’t forget, and no one is forgotten,” applies to all the lives that were lost, particularly the 16 Hunterdon County residents who died in the towers that tragic day.

Brown has invited all Hunterdon County first responders and law enforcement officers, veterans and the public to the Sunday morning ceremony.

The ceremony starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp and if there is inclement weather, the ceremony will move inside the courthouse.
