Historic Thompson-Neely Grist Mill meets historic rye grain

The waterwheel starts the process of grinding Keystone Rosen rye into rye meal at the Thompson-Neely Grist Mill in Washington Crossing Historic Park at a demonstration Oct. 4.

The Delaware Valley Fields Foundation and its partners have been propagating the heritage varietal of rye grain once prized for its flavor, for the last six years. The long-lost grain fell out of favor after Prohibition but looks to have a renewed future with the reintroduction of distilling in Pennsylvania.
