Haycock neighbors win big in statewide writing contest

Posted

A group of writers from Haycock Township captured one-quarter of the awards this year in the Pennwriters annual writing contest.

Each year, the statewide group judges submissions from writers throughout Pennsylvania and awards first, second and third place for Nonfiction, Novel-Beginnings, Poetry and Short Story, a total of 12 awards. Winners of the 2020 contest were announced May 16.

Michele Malinchak placed first for Novel-Beginnings with “The Healer of Geistville,” Lynda Gene Rymond placed first in Short Story with “Turn, Turn” and Paul Teese was third in Short Story with “The Keeper of Secrets.”

The three neighbors belong to the Twin Rivers Writers Group, which also includes, among others, poet Debra Orben and feature writer John Taylor, frequent contributors to the Bucks County Herald’s Opinion & Editorial page, and Mary Shafer, author of “Devastation on the Delaware,” a book documenting the 1955 flood.
