Harvey Ave Crew food drive is back in Doylestown

Posted

After a pandemic interruption, the ambitious Harvey Ave. Crew is back for its 7th annual food drive.

On Feb. 3, dozens of volunteers will distribute bags donated from area grocery stores to the front doors of neighbors throughout Doylestown Borough. Then, on Feb. 4, volunteers will return to collect the filled bags and deliver the much-needed contributions to the Bucks County Housing Group’s food pantry.

For those who prefer to drop off their donation, bags can be left on the porch at 200 Harvey Ave. before 11 a.m. Feb. 4.

A tax deductible donation can be made at https://bit.ly/35YJusW to support the Bucks County Housing Group.

“We tend to think of Bucks County as being affluent, but we also have a significant minority of people who aren’t as lucky,” said Dennis Parenti, a BCHG food pantry volunteer and food drive organizer. “For me, the food pantry is a reflection of the inherent goodness in our hearts and is one way to express our compassion and empathy for our fellow neighbors.”

In 2022, the Harvey Ave. food drive collected $8,850 for the BCHG’s Doylestown food pantry. More than 40 adult volunteers and 12 children distributed and collected bags from 3,500 homes.

The food collection effort was recognized in 2019 by the borough with a proclamation honoring its work.

Suggested food donations: Rice, canned fruits and vegetables, soup, beans, condiments, cereal, salad dressing, pasta and pasta sauces. Nothing in glass containers will be accepted.
