Harold “Howie” J. Breithoff, 89, of Bridgeton Township, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 at his home.
Born October 12, 1934 in Kintnersville, Pa., Howie worked as a serviceman for Stem Brothers since 1970, until his recent retirement. Prior to that, he was a truck driver for Durnan and Goode in Upper Black Eddy, Pa. Howie was an avid racing and NASCAR racing fan. He loved Ford cars and enjoyed classic cars but the love of his life was his 1968 Mustang Shelby GT 500. Howie had a loving, jolly smile and he loved good old-fashioned home cooking and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. To his many friends and family he was known as “Howie from the Valley” and they will miss him dearly.
Son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Breiner) Breithoff, Howie is survived by his two daughters Irene R. Gaffney and her husband Michael of Waynesboro, Pa., and Sherri L. Breithoff of Upper Black Eddy, Pa., his brother Thomas G. Breithoff and his wife Verna, his four grandchildren James Gaffney, Jennifer Gaffney, Timothy Leichliter, and Shawn Leichliter, and his two great-grandchildren Skyler and Jameson Leichliter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Howie was predeceased by his first wife Rose (Gallo) Breithoff in 1997, his second wife Rose T. (Dinmore) Breithoff in 2023, his three brothers Joseph, Charles, and Robert, and his sister Elizabeth Druckenmiller.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, N.J. A Catholic Prayer Service will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Bede Kim officiating. Howie has asked that you bring your classic cars, even Chevy’s. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Haycock, Pa.
