Grundy Library acquires book bike; public naming contest announced

Posted

Dana Barber, director of The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe St., Bristol, announced the purchase of a book bike for use by library staff at public outreach events in the borough.

Manufactured by Haley Tricycles of Philadelphia, the tricycle is tentatively scheduled for a fall delivery. Barber made the announcement on the heels of Book Bike Week (Aug. 1 to 5), an annual initiative of the Association of Bookmobile & Outreach Services (ABOS), a nonprofit organization with national membership.

While staff is very eager to receive “the book bike,” some assistance from the public is needed in naming it. Barber said a naming contest for the tricycle will run from Monday, Aug. 15 through Monday, Sept. 19.

Persons interested in participating can submit their bike name suggestion(s) via an online form, or at any in-person library event, such as festivals, Sunday Stroll, Story Time, during the contest period.

The name of the book bike will be selected by staff from among all the submitted bike names; the person who suggests the winning name will receive a $50 gift card to Cesare’s Ristorante in Bristol Borough. The new book bike name will be revealed during the Library’s Webb Space Telescope event on Saturday, Oct. 1.
