Posted

The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority is urging qualifying customers to apply for Pennsylvania’s Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) to help pay overdue water and wastewater bills.

Applications can be submitted through Aug. 11.

LIHWAP crisis grants are available to customers who are in an emergency and are in jeopardy of losing their service. Crisis situations include past-due water bills, termination of utility service and at risk of having utility service terminated.

Eligible customers can receive two grants, one for drinking water service and one for wastewater service, up to $2,500 each. Applicants must meet the household income guidelines, which includes a household of four with a maximum annual income of $41,625.

After a successful program in 2022, the state received additional funding to re-open LIHWAP for 2023. BCWSA assisted more than 100 customers recover about $70,000 from the initial program. Grant recipients do not have to repay the money they receive.

Individuals can apply at compass.state.pa.us or request an application by calling the Statewide Customer Service Center at 877-395-8930 or call PA Relay at 711 for the hearing impaired.
