Shapiro touts universal free breakfast at Bucks County middle school

Posted

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro visited Neshaminy’s Maple Point Middle School Friday to talk about the availability of free breakfast at public schools across the commonwealth.

A statement from Shapiro’s office said the governor’s 2023-24 budget includes a $46.5 million increase to provide breakfast for 1.7 million students, including 76,000 in Bucks County.

“...I believe our children need to start the day with a nutritious meal — and I know they can’t learn on an empty stomach,” said Shapiro, a Democrat.

With him was state Sen. Frank Farry, a handful of Bucks County state representatives and two county commissioners.

“One in eight children in Pennsylvania face hunger and food insecurity,” said Farry, a Republican. “Bucks County is not immune to that, which is why I am pleased to support the universal free breakfast program.”
