Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania kicks off Girl Scout Cookie Season

Posted

Girl Scouts across nine counties in Eastern Pennsylvania are now selling their iconic cookies and celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first gluten-free offering.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) kicked off the 2023 Girl Scout Cookie Season in Eastern Pennsylvania, as Girl Scouts and their troops rally the community to support the world’s largest girl-led business.

New to the 2023 Cookie Season, the “highly anticipated online exclusive” Raspberry Rally cookie joins the iconic lineup, alongside classic family favorites like Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, and more.

All proceeds from the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program stay local, funding troop experiences selected by the girls, as well as local programs, camps and events. Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, Girl Scouts learn five essential skills—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—that set them up for success in life.

“In addition to powering amazing experiences for our girls, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches lessons in financial literacy, planning, budgeting, teamwork, and innovative thinking that girls carry with them throughout their lives,” said Kim E. Fraites-Dow, CEO of GSEP. “There is so much to celebrate this year, including the 10th anniversary of the first-ever gluten-free Girl Scout Cookie, which was set in motion by a Girl Scout from our very own council. A decade later, this milestone is a testament to the fact that when girls are empowered to speak up and take action on the issues they care about, incredible things happen.”

The first gluten-free Girl Scout Cookie was inspired by Claire M., a GSEP Girl Scout who had been diagnosed with Celiac Disease but wanted a way she and others with similar dietary needs could enjoy Girl Scout Cookies alongside friends and family. As a result of Claire’s advocacy and support from the community, a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie was piloted during the 2013-14 season across 20 councils, including GSEP, to outstanding results. Today, the Girl Scout Cookie lineup includes the gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie with rich caramel, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and a hint of sea salt.

Consumers can support local Girl Scout troops by purchasing their favorite varieties and trying the new, online exclusive Raspberry Rally, a thin crispy cookie infused with raspberry flavor and dipped in the same chocolaty coating as the beloved Thin Mints cookies. This new cookie will be the first in the Girl Scout Cookie lineup to be exclusively offered for online sale and direct shipment only, enhancing girls’ e-commerce sales and entrepreneurial skills.
