Gather Place starts year with exhibits, presentations, events

Posted

Gather Place, in the old A.M.E. Church at 188 S. Canal St., Yardley, has planned a variety of activities for visitors this month.

From noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays Jan. 14 and 15, 21 and 22, and 28 and 29, visit Gather Place’s permanent walk-through exhibit, “About Yardley Borough 1682 - Now.”

It includes a documented historical timeline beginning from 1682 about Yardley Borough’s Quaker founders, supported by actual photos of its landmark structures, its people, and its industry. Learn about Yardley Borough’s diversity of people, including African Americans who trace their lineage from the 1700s to current day decedents still residing here.

From 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 14 and 15, sit in Gather Place Museum’s theater-like setting and watch “Remembering Dr./Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 ‘I Have A Dream’ speeches on the museum’s “super big screen.”

From 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 and 22, sit and watch the “Historic Yardley Borough’s Hidden Figures & Facts In Plain Sight” film presentation authored by third generation Yardley Borough resident Shirley Lee Corsey. Recollections, conversations, and photographs illustrate the activities, traditions, events, and landmark buildings that make Yardley special.

From 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 and 29, join in for “Let’s play! Yardley borough history trivia game,” a fun way to test your knowledge about what you have learned by your Gather Place Museum visits this month. The winning team will receive a donated meaningful, useful gift package.

Gather Place is open noon to 3 p.m. weekends, and weekdays by appointment. Visit info@gatherplace.org to RSVP for your visit; admission is a $10 donation per person.
