Contributions from more than 200 individuals, businesses, foundations and government agencies have pushed the capital campaign for Lions Pride Park past its $2-million goal.
The inclusive Lions Pride Park, a 17-acre, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant park in Warrington, is the result of a partnership between the township and its Lions Club.
“The Warrington Lions are grateful to all of the individuals and businesses in the community who came together to reach this goal in partnership with an outstanding Warrington Township staff,” said Jim Furlong, Warrington Lions Club director. “We dreamed big and together we achieved beyond our wildest expectations. As a multigenerational, fully accessible community park, literally everyone can enjoy the rewards of this combined effort.”
Its work complete, the “Lions Pride Park Campaign Committee” will now be replaced by the “Friends of Lions Pride Park," which, according to the Lions, will support the park going forward.
The Lindy Family/Lindy Property Management are the largest donors to the project and two features of the park are named for them: Lindy Communities Kids Mountain and the Lindy Community Center.
Other major donors include the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the North Wales Water Authority, Andrew's Friends Fund, and Toll Brothers. The Toll Brothers Grove, an area for relaxing, playing games, and picnicking within the park, is named in honor of the company’s gift.
Accessible features include a walking trail that connects to other township paths, a smartphone beacon app that will allow people who are blind or have low vision to learn about features of the park and navigate the site.
Roseann Schaaf, Ph.D., an internationally recognized occupational therapy researcher, provided feedback on making the park’s play equipment accessible and including enriched sensory motor experiences.
