Free Shul School coming to Kehilat HaNahar

Posted

Kehilat HaNahar (KHN), The Little Shul by the River in New Hope, is offering its Shul School program at no cost to member families for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.

The KHN Shul School provides a nurturing, creative environment for children in kindergarten and above to learn about Jewish holidays and traditions, Jewish values, prayer, and the Hebrew language. It also provides an opportunity for Jewish children to share in a community with other Jewish children. Older students focus more of their studies on individual tutoring as well as family and intergenerational programs.

The Shul School program for young children uses stories, arts and crafts, movement, music and holiday celebrations to instill a love of Judaism, encourage an enthusiasm for Jewish learning, and instill a strong sense of Jewish community and individual Jewish identity.

The Shul School Coordinator, Josh Nelson, is a student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC), having earned an MA in Biblical Languages from Graduate Theological Union. This year Nelson received The Yehuda Berger Prize for Excellence in Biblical Studies, which recognizes “significant scholarly insight into biblical civilization and biblical texts.”

KHN is a Reconstructionist congregation that promotes an egalitarian, interfaith and LGBTQ-friendly community. Its programs are designed to educate the KHN community and beyond in the key areas of Jewish history, philosophy, values, art, music and culture.
