Fox Chase garden party to benefit immunotherapy research

Posted
The Bucks County Chapter of the Board of Associates of Fox Chase Cancer Center will host its annual Seeds of Hope Garden Party with all proceeds benefiting immunotherapy research at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the gardens of Paxon Hill Farm in New Hope.

Patrons can enjoy musicians, a wine bar and food as they stroll through the Paxon Hill gardens and peruse silent auction items.

This year’s event will feature the cuisine of leading Bucks County culinary purveyors including: Aztlan Mexican Grill, Blu Mediterranean Grill, Broadmoor Restaurant, Caleb’s American Kitchen, Chive Cafe & Catering, Earl’s New American, El Tule, Hamilton’s Grill Room, Lambertville Station Restaurant & Inn, Local Harvest Pizza, Manoff Market Cidery, Max Hansen Caterer, Olive with A Twist, Pierre’s Chocolates, Sweet Victory Gluten & Dairy Free Treats and The Raven.

The event’s special pledge is for immunotherapy research. Immunotherapy is the most promising breakthrough revolutionizing cancer treatment. Immunotherapy exploits the patient’s own immune cells to kill cancer cells and is producing cures in diseases, such as melanoma, where patients previously had little hope of being cured. Nevertheless, the benefit of this revolutionary approach remains restricted to a relatively small fraction of patients and the challenge is to expand those benefits to all patients.

Siddarth Balachandran, Ph.D., is an immunologist at Fox Chase who has developed a bold new approach to make the immune response to cancer even more potent by tricking the body’s immune cells into thinking they are attacking their traditional enemy – an invading microbe – instead of cancer.

“We are confident that this new approach will expand the benefits of immunotherapy to untold numbers of previously unresponsive cancer patients and give them hope, especially for difficult-to-treat cancers like melanoma,” said Balachandran.

The Bucks County Chapter thanks the Event Chair Denise Marshall, and the following sponsors: Byers’ Choice Ltd., Morel Family Foundation, Leo and Debra Sniger, Lou and Carol Della Penna, David and Sandy Marshall, Millham Co., Inc., Penn Color, Inc., R&R Wood Products Inc., Worth & Company, Inc., Lee and Ginny Beyer, Covenant Bank, DonTech Inc., Brent and Deirdre Alderfer, Citizens and Northern Bank, Cordatus Wealth Management, Keenan Motor Group, and Art Mazzei.
