Focusing on relationships in Upper Bucks

Posted

I am extremely honored to serve as the Pennsylvania state senator for Upper Bucks County and most municipalities in Lehigh County.

As an update, I want to report the things that I have been doing in my first months on the job. It was clear that many constituents were interested in reducing the cost of government and making operations more transparent. Therefore, I refused the taxpayer-funded defined benefit pension plan and introduced legislation to change the pension for future legislators. In addition, I immediately advocated for a change to the Senate rules to increase the time to review proposed changes in law.

Next, I introduced legislation, Senate Bill 458 to require school curriculum to be posted for review, by parents and taxpayers. I authored Senate Bill 130 to provide for election audits to ensure security at the ballot box. My team helped me craft and file Senate Bill 534to call for transparency in the Neighborhood Improvement Zone, so that everyone can judge the transparent facts about its economic development goals and if it accomplishes the original legislative intention.

Senate leadership appointed me to the Senate Committees on Education, Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, Communications & Technology, as well as chairman of the Intergovernmental Operations Committee. As the chairman, we advanced Senate Bill 188which would prevent regulations with a cost to state or local taxpayers greater than $1 million from taking effect unless reviewed and approved by the general assembly as well as Senate Bill 190which requires an automatic review of economically significant regulations three years after taking effect to easure their cost and effectiveness. I’ve also participated in a PA Game Commission black bear study and helped to recognize employers of adults with special needs on World Down Syndrome Day.

This shows that I have been busy on your behalf, learning about commonwealth issues and it also includes voting on the senate floor on legislation that affects us all.

But the most important work is our relationship. You should feel connected to me and my office. I’ve assembled a team of experienced and energetic people to organize and operate the communication between us. By contacting my office, our team begins researching and interacting with me, to address your concerns.

Email is the most efficient way to communicate with me. Please use jcoleman@pasen.gov and take a moment to explain your position on legislation, thoughts on new law and how state government interacts with you. You can also go to my Facebook page at facebook.com/SenatorJarrettColeman and see what I’m doing and comment/share to help me build a robust communication network, to keep everyone informed.

In another effort to keep you connected, I have an E-Newsletter that goes out almost every week that you can sign up for at https://senatorcoleman.com/enewsletters/

Finally, we are conducting a one-time open house in our Bucks County District Office on Wednesday April 19, from 4-6:30 p.m. at 314 W. Broad St., Quakertown.

Please come and meet me and my staff to learn more about what we can do for you.
