Flood insurance task force meets this week in Lower Makefield

Posted

The Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force that Gov. Josh Shapiro created in December will meet Wednesday in one of the municipalities most impacted by the Bucks County summer floods that precipitated its formation.

The task force meeting will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lower Makefield Township Community Center both in person and virtually.

A storm that dropped about six inches of rain in two hours on July 15 took a devastating toll houses in Lower Makefield’s Maplevale and Meadow Drive neighborhood. The same storm prompted a flood that claimed the lives of seven people in Upper Makefield.

The goal of the task force is to study existing statutes recommend policies for more affordable flood insurance for Pennsylvanians, who have been experiencing more-frequent storms with rising temperatures.

Those recommendations will come following a public comment period and a series of meetings to research, analyze, draft and present a final report.

For a link to the meeting, send an email to RA-IN-POLICYOFFICE@pa.gov. Anyone in need of ADA accommodations should contact Joseph Korman at 717-787-3898.
