Flemington DIY to mark 10-year milestone with celebration

Posted

Flemington DIY, local nonprofit community arts space, will host its “Decade of DIY” celebration at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

The event will feature a headlining set from New York City post-punk band Bodega with other performances from comedian Chris Gethard, indie rock outfit Shalom, and rising power-pop group Classic Traffic.

In addition, Diamond Heart Body Piercing & Tattoo will offer a tattoo flash sheet during the day, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the organization.

Lone Eagle Brewing, for the third year in a row, will be pouring Decadent Decade IPA, a fresh new brew in honor of the occasion – again with some proceeds going to Flemington DIY. The beer will also be available as an exclusive 4-pack to go.

“It’s hard to believe the community has sustained Flemington DIY for so long, nearly a third of my life,” said Jeff Hersch, co-founder and executive director. “These days, maintaining an arts space is not an easy task, especially operating as 100% volunteer-run (including my role), and I am forever thankful and grateful for all our volunteers, collaborators, and supporters who have got us this far.

“In those 10 years, we’ve hosted well over 1,300 events (probably more), collaborated with countless groups and businesses, and met some of the best and uplifting voices of the greater area. It seems every year we grow more and more, and I am eager and excited to see what our future holds.”

Flemington DIY’s new Art Circle will unveil a new art vending machine, which features small works by local artists available for sale.

Tickets are available for $20 in advance, $25 at the door, at 26 Stangl Road Flemington, N.J., and can be purchased at flemingtondiy.org.
