An elderly woman died Monday in an early morning house fire in the Newtown Grant section of Newtown Township, said police.
The woman’s name has not been released since family members were still being notified Monday morning, according to officials.
Police reported on the township’s CrimeWatch site that they were dispatched to the 400 block of Mahogany Walk at 4:27 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence.
Officers forced their way in but were driven back out again by the flames and smoke.
After Newtown Emergency Services and neighboring fire departments doused the blaze, crews found the woman in a second-floor bedroom. She was reportedly deceased when they located her.
The fire’s cause and point of origin were still under investigation Monday afternoon.
