Family Stages performs fairy tale with a twist

Posted

Family Stages returns to the Ambler Theater Jan. 16, with a spirited version of the Brothers Grimm classic of breadcrumbs and bonbons, “Hansel and Gretel.”

As usual, the children discover a magical gingerbread house covered with goodies. There they encounter a kindly old cook and a most unusual dinner invitation. When it appears as if Hansel is the main course, Gretel goes to work. But in the Family Stages tradition there is a “surprisingly happy, and totally satisfying” ending for all.

Hansel and Gretel is performed entirely by two actors who bring the seven characters to life in a spirited 50-minute production. A single performance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16 (the MLK holiday). Tickets can be purchased at 215-740-2156 or familystages.org. The historic Ambler Theater is located at 108 E. Butler Ave., Ambler.
