Fair trade Bunyaad rugs on sale

Posted

Ten Thousand Villages is having a sale of exquisitely crafted, hand-knotted fair trade Bunyaad rugs.

Bunyaad rugs, pillows and tapestries are 10% off Aug. 4-13 in Souderton.

Bunyaad, meaning “foundation” in Urdu, works to create strong foundations in the villages of Pakistan by paying a fair wage to its artisan families.

With the looms located inside the artisans’ homes, this project gives increased opportunity to women. They can work on the looms around their other household chores, like caring for children and preparing meals.

Mahwish and Imtiaz are cousins and work on the loom together in Imtiaz’s home in the village of Fateh Toor More. The craft has been in their family for generations. Now both finished with school, these young women find an voice in their communities as they both earn a good wage working with Bunyaad.

Ten Thousand Villages is located at 781 Route 113, Souderton. Store hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
