Our beloved Ellen Agnes (Evans) Atkinson passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 19, 2023, surrounded by family.

Daughter of the late Margaret Dougherty Evans and Jackson Cedrick Evans, she was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., in 1938 and grew up in Doylestown, Pa., preceded in death by her twin sister, Thois Evans Keil and her brother Donald J. Evans. Ellen is survived by her husband Edward (Ted) C. Atkinson and her four children: Beth Van Fossen (William), Jeffrey Atkinson (Barbara), Sharon Atkinson (Edward), and Gail Atkinson Acosta (John), ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School. In 1956, she graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown. She was employed by Bell Telephone (Doylestown location), Bucks County Courthouse, and the U.S. Postal Service as the postmaster of Rushland where she served 24 years. Ellen attended dances at the Albert Atkinson American Legion Post in Doylestown, where she met her husband Ted of 64 years.

She loved gardening, traveling the world with friends, skiing, spending time at the beach, and watching sunsets on the bay and the farm with the love of her life, Ted.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, Pa., from 9:30 a.m. until her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment immediately following at Wrightstown Friends Cemetery, Wrightstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ellen’s name may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
