Elana Katherine (nee Melchiondo) Murphy, age 52, passed away on Friday, July 23, in her home in Cazenovia, N.Y. She was surrounded by family.
Born in Trenton, N.J., Elana was raised in Yardley and New Hope. Following her graduation from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, Elana lived in Philadelphia and Stockton, N.J., before settling in upstate New York where she had resided for the past 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Murphy, her daughters, Olivia and Cassandra Murphy, her son, Liam Murphy, her father, Michael Melchiondo and mother Lavina (nee Prokopchuk) Melchiondo, her sister, Jennifer Melchiondo and her husband John Swenson, her brother Mickey Melchiondo, his wife Ellen Schmidt, and her two nephews, Cooper Swenson and Michael Melchiondo.
Elana was an avid reader and learner, adventurous traveler, self-less volunteer, passionate sports fan and ice hockey player, animal lover and artist. She was an especially accomplished stained glass artist, displaying her work at craft shows throughout the New York and New Jersey area. Most of all, Elana was a dear friend with a generous nature and a ready and radiant smile. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial gathering and time of remembrance will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, N.J. 08050.
