Dr. Susan Rottschaefer

Posted

Dr. Susan Rottschaefer passed on February 5, 2024 and was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard W. and Ellen Schock Rottschaefer and her brother, Bernard L. Rottschaefer MD. Susan was a woman before her time, earning her degrees from the University of Rochester and her doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Oregon. She embarked on a long career in the pharmaceutical industry initially on the West Coast before moving to Hartsville, PA in 1977.

She was never one to let moss grow under her feet and after her retirement, she filled her time with musical performances with area ensembles on the tuba and handbells, earning the nickname, Tuba Sue. She was active as a volunteer at Doylestown Hospital. She loved the outdoors and nature and would be found most summers at her cabin by the lake taking in the beautiful scenery and wildlife in god’s country in Upstate New York. Aunt Susan will be missed at the annual Hersheypark trip, where she would ride just about anything with her grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was a woman who left memorable impressions on all whom she touched, both friends and family. She leaves behind a sister Ellen Olson (James), a sister-in-law Betti Rottschaefer (Bernard L.), nine nieces and nephews and thirteen grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A celebration of life for Dr. Susan Rottschaefer will be hosted at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home in Buckingham, PA on February 22, 2024 with calling hours beginning at 9 am and service at 11 am. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to AARK Wildlife Rehabilitation; 1531 Upper Stump Road; Chalfont, PA 18914 or www.aark.org.
